The birth of Ava DuVernay took place on the 24th of August on the 24th of August, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay learned to love art through her grandmother Denise. Her aunt, a night-shift nurse, allowed her to study literature for art as well as theater in the daylight. DuVernay was a fan of the movie West Side Story, which she showed her. The time spent in Selma, Alabama during the summer, was later the inspiration to direct a movie about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement. DuVernay completed Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood in the state of California in 1990. She went to the University of California Los Angeles to obtain degrees in English in addition to African American Studies. As studying, DuVernay was interested in creating for television journalism. She began her career as an assistant for CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembered being told to look at the trash of the home of a juror. In the course of her work, she became dissatisfied with journalism and moved into the business of publicity. DuVernay was hired straight after graduating from college as an intern at a small studio. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was founded in 1999. The company launched a number of promotional and lifestyle networks which include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
